Short Bio

Alberto currently works as a programmer and FAIRification steward at the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP-RD). He uses his expertise in the Semantic Web and FAIR to help European Registry Networks (ERNs) adopt the FAIR principles to make their data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable, greatly increasing its effectiveness in research and sharing. He also helps with the creation of semantic models to represent patient data, as well as creating tools to help data stewards understand and create plans to FAIRify their data.

Additional research interests include Machine learning and knowledge representation.

He received his Master's Degree (Bioinformatics) from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in 2021, under the supervision of Dr. Mark Wilkinson. For his Master's thesis, he designed an algorithm that automatically indexes the contents of both public and private endpoints, creating useful and descriptive metadata while keeping privacy and access conditions a high priority. Another algorithm then matches SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language (SPARQL) queries with potentially responsive endpoints without the user needing to know them a priori using the Shapes Constraint Language (SHACL).
